– For Immediate Release:
The Bakersfield Jazz Workshop congratulates Gregory Porter, originally from Bakersfield. Gregory Porter is a world renowned Jazz Vocalist. He won his 2nd Grammy last night.
Bakersfield jazz singer Gregory Porter earned his second gramophone trophy Sunday night at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards.
Porter took home the best jazz vocal album for his album “Take Me to the Alley.” Back in 2014, he won the same award for his 2013 album “Liquid Spirit.”
“I’m thankful for life’s ups and downs, and the ability to take those difficult moments and try to make it into melody,” Porter said onstage as he accepted his most recent award.
“And so, I’m blessed to be here. Thank you so much for this Grammy. Thank you everybody, thank you to the fans. Keep spreading love, no love dying.”
Before leaving the stage, Porter acknowledged the late jazz singer Al Jarreau, who died earlier Sunday.
Porter wasn’t the only Bakersfield musician being honored at the Staples Center. Rock band Korn was nominated for best metal performance for “Rotting In Vain.” That award went to Megadeth for “Dystopia.”
