Text Box: Bill Andrews, who recently moved from Bakersfield to North Carolina: “I would like to thank you for your support and encouragement that has allowed me to become so much more confident with my playing. The Jazz Workshop has been a special blessing for me in so many ways. I hope to continue this pursuit in Carolina. I wish you every success in the world and pray that you will continuously be blessed for the outpouring of your heart each week with the youngsters who seek to grow in their musical experience. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to share musical time with you and all the wonderful people at the workshop.”
Response from Steve Eisen, BJW: “Bill has been such a blessing to our organization. his dedication and willingness to volunteer/help us out in any situation has meant so much to us. Testimonials from friends of the Bakersfield Jazz Workshop:

Testimonials from Friends of the Bakersfield Jazz Workshop .

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of longtime BJW supporter and BJW Officer, Lary Totten. Lary worked tirelessly, mostly behind the scenes, to make the BJW the success that it is. Lary was a pianist with a love of jazz—however, his greatest joy came from helping to encourage and inspire student musicians and vocalists of all ages and ability levels, to get up and play jazz. In his own words, “If I can do it, anyone can.”

Our community will miss him.

Text Box: Letter from the mother of 2008 BJW scholarship recipient, high school drummer Clayton Chancey, a Senior at Bakersfield Christian High School:
Thanks so much, Steve!!!!!!  Not only for this [letter of recommendation] but for all the mentoring and influence - both musically and morally - that you've had in Clayton's life.  The Bakersfield Jazz Workshop truly has inspired and helped prepare him to take the next steps as a jazz musician.  All the work, all the effort you guys put into this thing - it IS worth it, and it IS bearing fruit.  Thanks again!
