J. T. Butler
I was born in Texas, and raised in Los Angeles County and I started singing at 7 years old, took piano at 11 and finally learned guitar at 18. I have played guitar in bands for about 20 years, but I have been a lead vocalist and background singer in clubs, theaters and in church for over 40 years. I love the blues and all of its offspring (jazz, rhythm n’ blues, rock n’ roll). In fact Blues and Jazz are as much a cultural legacy to me as musical endeavors. I am the current vice-president of the Kern River Blues Society. I am also a member of the Board of Directors of the Bakersfield Jazz Workshop.
I am honored to be a participant in the Jazz Workshop, because it provides me an opportunity to advance and refine my musical skills in a positive environment. As a prior recipient of a BJW Scholarship/Award I can definitely attest to the great benefits of being a Workshop participant and volunteer.
